Special Issue: Learning Design

This special issue of Scope (Learning & Teaching) aims to explore contemporary topics in the field of Learning Design. Learning Design is gaining recognition as an evolving, standalone profession, distinct from the traditional view that it is merely a task undertaken by teachers. There is rapidly growing, worldwide audience for online learning, with educational technologies and platforms becoming increasingly available, accessible and AI-enabled. Student needs for social connection and community transcend these easy offerings and have led to the exploration of complementary approaches in design for online learning, including, but not limited to, the integration of Ako and other indigenous approaches.

Submissions will focus on applied theory and case studies; Aotearoa-NZ bicultural context; examples and critique; AI and its implications; narratives of learning designers and other related topics.

ISSN: 1179-951X (hardcopy), ISSN: 1178- 9528 (online).

Submissions to Trish Chaplin-Cheyne (Editor) and Megan Kitching (Editorial Assistant) by 31 May 2026.
